So what does Moso share in common with Justin Bieber, Kevin Spacey and Lady Gaga? We’ll all be awarded a Webby Award at the The 17th Annual Webby Awards awards hosted in New York next month.

Moso picked up the win as one of seven honerees listed in the Car Culture category for the Shannons Club which connects motor enthusiasts via an innovative online community. Moso have worked closely with the marketing team at Shannons to produce this state-of-the-art application that has had over 25,000 registrations within it’s first year.

The New York City ceremony is famous for the winners being only allowed to deliver a ‘five word speech’ upon acceptance, such as Al Gore (“Please don’t recount this vote.”), Jimmy Fallon (“Thank God Conan got promoted”) and Anna Wintour (“Sometimes, Geeks Can Be Chic”). Other notable winners include Justin Bieber (for his “Girlfriend” fragrance launch and social media campaign), Lady Gaga (for best celebrity-fan social presence), The New York Times (for best news social presence) and Google Maps for iPhone, which nabbed five honors, including best use of GPS or location technology.

The webby awards recognises websites, online video, social media and apps and interactive advertising. It is the leading international award that honors excellence on the internet, with 11,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide submitted this year.

My focus over the last two years of higher education at Swinburne has only been that of the prized and much sought after Industry Placement (IP). The entire process was relentless even to get the opportunity of being interviewed by potential employers. Competition was thick and only twenty (20) students made it past the first hurdle. Quickly the interview process was learnt, practiced and forgotten as fast as my naïve preconceptions of the industry were.

To think it was only three months ago I had worked so hard to enter one unknown to be accepted and launched into the next big unknown, Studio Moso. What does Moso even mean? Only the highest of clergy in this facility are privy to such information. It has been four weeks so far and the day to day tasks of being a placement student include tireless HTML/CSS coding, intense photoshop editing and the highly competitive table tennis death match. My skills have been tested, and the ones I don’t have yet are now developing at cheetah speed. Working with the crew at Moso has been great, warm and inviting even within my first timid week. Like all human beings my journey has not gone without blunder, flattening layers and saving over the original file, uploading out dated files to certain servers.. and I’m sure more will come up over time. However to keep my team happy I am making an effort to not do them again!

To both my surprise and relief the first month has been a smooth transition from my lax uni life to the makings of a real front-end developer, I really look forward to what’s in store for the next 11 months. Peace out – Cliff

We swapped rainy Melbourne with the snowy slopes of Mt Buller this weekend, for a few days of well earned play and catch ups. The conditions were awesome and we certainly made the most of it, carving up the snow three days straight and even unleashing our inner child building a snowman. There’s many an aching muscle in the office today, and just as many smiles!
Check out some of our happy snaps from the trip.
